Night gels and ointments are the heavy artillery of dry eye: thick carbomer or paraffin bases that cling to the eye surface for hours, protecting it through the long blink-free stretch of sleep. Eyes that wake gritty, stuck or painful are usually drying out overnight, sometimes because the lids do not fully close, and no daytime drop survives until morning. The trade-off is blur, which is why these belong to the last minutes before sleep, paired with lighter drops for the day. Xailin Gel is the carbomer night gel: a strip in the lower lid at bedtime carries the eye through to morning.

If the worst moment of your eye day is opening them in the morning, the treatment gap is overnight, and only a gel or ointment bridges it. If you use daytime drops and still wake up sore, nothing lighter will fix it: the overnight hours are the untreated stretch, and a bedtime gel is the only product built for them. The gel format also means fewer night applications than drops would need, which is what actually makes an overnight product get used.
