Piascledine 300 is a French-developed medicine containing avocado and soybean unsaponifiables. It is classed as a symptomatic slow-acting drug for osteoarthritis. Taken once a day over at least three to six months, it reduces pain and stiffness and has been shown to slow the narrowing of the joint space in hip osteoarthritis. Avocado and soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) slow the breakdown of cartilage and stimulate its repair. In clinical trials ASU reduced pain and the need for anti-inflammatory tablets in osteoarthritis of the hip and knee.
